MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Oregon Lightning will host two youth football camps this Saturday, April 4, for athletes ages 7 to 14 in Madras and Prineville. The sessions offer participants the opportunity to learn football fundamentals and train alongside the team's players and coaches.

The camps are designed to build confidence through position-specific instruction, speed and agility drills and leadership development. In addition to the training sessions, every registered camper will be invited to participate in a halftime scrimmage during the team's home opener on April 25.

The first session will take place in Madras at Juniper Hills Park, located at 1566 NE 10th St. The Saturday camp is scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Football and Cheer camps are taking place in both Madras and Prineville. The Prineville camp will take placeStryker Park at 800 NW Madras Highway. The afternoon session is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Chuck Jones, general manager and head coach of the Oregon Lightning, said the camps are a highlight for the organization. "These camps are one of our favorite parts of the season," Jones said. "We get to connect with the community, teach the game we love and give kids a moment they'll remember forever. Central Oregon has embraced this team and we're excited to give back."

Registration for either camp is $49 per person. Parents and guardians can register participants through the Oregon Lightning website. The camps are designed to provide young athletes with a chance to meet the players they see on the field while developing their own skills.

Every registered camper will be invited to participate in a special on-field halftime scrimmage. This event will take place during the Oregon Lightning's first home game of the season later this month. All participants will have the chance to play at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center.

The season home-opening game and halftime scrimmage are scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center. Tickets for the game are currently available on the team's website.
