La Pine driver injured, cited in DUII crash into power pole support
La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – A La Pine man was injured and cited for DUII and reckless driving Tuesday night after his car left La Pine State Recreation Road and struck a power pole support, causing the cable to land in the roadway, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies were dispatched around 10:35 p.m. to the crash on State Rec Road near Fifth Street in La Pine, said Sgt. Jason Will.
Arriving deputies found a gray Volkswagen Passat driven by Jeffrey Lilley, 50, was heading west when it left toe road for unknown reasons and hit the power pole support. The car’s front end was significantly damaged.
Lilley, alone in the car, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and the car’s air bags deployed, Wall said. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Charles Bend for treatment.
The cause of the crash was investigated as driver impairment, in conjunction with a possible medical event, Wall said, adding that the investigation is ongoing. The crash shut down State Rec Road for about an hour due to the support cable being in the roadway.
La Pine Rural Fire District medics, Oregon State Police and Deschutes County Public Works responded to the scene to assist.
