Oregon City woman killed, husband injured in motorcycle crash on Highway 207 north of Mitchell

MITCHELL, Ore. (KTVZ) – An Oregon City woman was killed and her husband was injured Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on state Highway 207 about six miles north of Mitchell, Oregon State Police reported Monday.

Troopers responded shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday to the reported crash near milepost 18 in Wheeler Count.

A preliminary investigation found that William Herrold, 42, of Oregon City, was operating a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle, leading a group of motorcycles heading north on the highway, when he veered onto the gravel shoulder, lost control and crashed.

Herrold and his passenger, wife Tanya Herrold, 44, were thrown from the motorcycle. The passenger died at the scene and her husband was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, OSP said.

A second motorcycle, operated by a 50-year-old Vancouver, Wash., man, also veered onto the gravel shoulder and went down, but troopers said that operator was not injured.

“Traveling too fast for conditions was reported as a contributing factor to the crash,” OSP said.

The crash and investigation affected the highway for four hours.

 OSP was assisted by the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office, Wheeler County Fire & Rescue, Mitchell Ambulance and ODOT.
