(Update: OSP releases name, details of Friday crash)

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Crescent man was killed Friday morning when his pickup truck left U.S. Highway 97 about 10 miles north of La Pine and struck a road sign and several trees on the shoulder before overturning, Oregon State Police said Monday.

OSP troopers and other first responders were called to the single-vehicle crash around 8:25 a.m. near milepost 158 and Sugarpine Road.

A preliminary investigation indicated Robert Patrick Conway, 53, of Crescent was at the wheel of a northbound Toyota Tacoma when he drifted off the highway shoulder "for unknown reasons," OSP said.

The pickup continued down the shoulder, hitting a roadway sign and several trees, then rolling onto its roof. Conway died at the crash scene, OSP said.

The highway was not impacted by the on-scene investigation.

The highway was not closed due to the crash or investigation, but ODOT advised northbound motorists on TripCheck of a possible delay and to “prepare to slow or move over for worker safety.”

OSP was assisted at the scene by firefighter-paramedics, the Sunriver Police Department, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.
