Bend man killed in semi-car crash on I-84 onramp in Northeast Oregon

(Update: Adding video)

BOARDMAN, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A Bend man was killed late Friday night in a crash on an on-ramp to Interstate 84 near Boardman in Morrow County, Oregon State Police said Monday.

Troopers said a preliminary investigation found that Austin Scott Yager, 38, of Bend, was driving an eastbound Volkswagen Jetta that had a mechanical failure on the on-ramp and stopped in the roadway around 11:45 p.m., with no lights operating.

Yager was standing outside the car when an eastbound Freightliner driven by a Miami man came onto the on-ramp and struck the VW, OSP said.

Yager died at the crash scene, troopers said, and the truck driver was unhurt.

The freeway was not closed during the on-scene investigation, conducted by OSP and assisted by the Boardman Police and Fire departments, the Morrow County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.
