BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A 19-year-old Redmond resident died Friday evening after a motorcycle and a vehicle collided head-on at a Bend intersection. Malachi Longstroth was a passenger on the motorcycle when the crash occurred at approximately 6:28 p.m. at SE Second Street and Miller Avenue.

The crash involved a motorcycle traveling northbound on Second Street at a high rate of speed and a Subaru Crosstrek traveling southbound. Bend Police report the Subaru, driven by a 25-year-old Bend man, was attempting to turn east onto Miller Avenue when the collision occurred.

The impact threw both 19-year-old Longstroth and the 20-year-old motorcyclist from the vehicle. Longstroth, a Redmond resident who was riding as a passenger, died at the scene. The motorcyclist, a Bend resident, was transported to St. Charles with serious injuries and remains at the hospital.

Responding officers performed life-saving measures at the intersection. They used an automated external defibrillator, conducted CPR and applied tourniquets before the motorcyclist was transported for medical treatment.

The driver of the Subaru was not reported as injured and remained at the scene following the collision. The driver cooperated with the ongoing police investigation. Members of the Bend Police reconstruction team arrived to process the scene. The investigation required SE Second Street to be closed to traffic for approximately 3 hours on Friday night.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
