WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Secret Service officers shot and killed an intruder at the residence of the Peruvian ambassador to the United States in Washington, authorities said. The shooting occurred Wednesday morning at the residence in the Forest Hills neighborhood of northwest Washington. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee said Secret Service officers were called to the home when residents heard windows being smashed. He said the officers encountered a man in the rear yard who was armed with a metal stake. Contee said they deployed a Taser in an effort to detain him, but it didn’t appear to have any effect. The officers then fatally shot the man. Investigators haven’t yet determined why the man was there or smashing the windows.
