3 killed in Southern California small plane crash

BIG BEAR CITY, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a single-engine plane has crashed near Big Bear City Airport in the California mountains, killing all three people aboard. It happened about 2 p.m. Monday. Officials say the Beechcraft A36 went down in a vacant lot near the airport, which serves the popular tourist resort of Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains east of Los Angeles. It was partly cloudy at the time. It is the second deadly small-plane crash in Southern California in three days. On Saturday night, one person was killed when a plane slammed into a grassy hillside above homes in a Los Angeles neighborhood amid dense fog. The causes of both crashes are under investigation.
