Jewish protesters calling for cease-fire in Gaza disrupt first day of California legislative session

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Protesters calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war have disrupted the first day of California’s legislative session. Protesters sang, clapped and unfurled banners in the state Assembly on Wednesday calling for a cease-fire in Gaza. Assembly members tried to briefly continue their business before taking a recess and ultimately adjourning. The protest was organized Jewish Voice for Peace, IfNotNow and the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network. Wednesday was the first day of a legislative session that is expected to be dominated by questions over artificial intelligence and a massive budget deficit. The session runs through Aug. 31.
