Norway expects landslides, avalanches and heavy rain after the worst storm in over 30 years
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Authorities in Norway have issued several landslide and avalanche warnings for the southern part of the country as it continues to get hammered by bad weather. Officials said on Friday that roads in the north also might have to be closed at short notice. Some 200 passengers slept inside the airport in the Arctic city of Tromsoe due to Storm Ingunn, Norway’s most powerful storm since 1992. While the worst of the extreme weather has abated, the Norwegian government issued its highest-level avalanche warning for most of southern and central Norway for the coming days. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute said southern Norway was forecast to get up to 100 millimeters (4 inches) of rain within 24 hours.
