Bend Fire & Rescue holds annual open house for community

Bend Fire & Rescue

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend Fire & Rescue invited the community to its annual open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Fire Station, 63377 NE Jamison Street.

The free, family-friendly event serves an opportunity to meet firefighters, emergency responders and community partners, as well as take a tour of the fire station. There also was an opportunity to climb into a fire truck - and free ice cream was available at the event.

Kelsey McGee paid a visit to speak with people attending to see what their favorite part of the event is, and also to ask the little kids if they want to be firefighters when they grow up. Her report will be on NewsChannel 21 at Eleven (our 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts are pre-empted by sports coverage).

This also was an opportunity for community members to learn valuable safety tips from Bend Fire & Rescue staff. There were safe cooking and smoke alarm demonstrations and an opportunity to learn more about wildfire and home safety.
