Fireball, meteor, shooting star: A memorable, blazing ball of light streaked across NW skies late Monday night

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Thousands if not tens of thousands of people across the Northwest observed a very bright fireball streak across the sky late Monday night, some capturing it on home doorbell or security cameras.

Some of the many who weighed in on Reddit’s Bend subreddit (among others) thought the apparent meteor was so bright, they were sure something landed nearby, though experts said that was highly unlikely.

“I gasped my biggest gasp,” one poster said. “That was unbelievable,” another said.

Many reported it cast a green glow, but others saw blue and white, orange or pink.

The American Meteor Society’s event page for the sighting listed 135 witness reports around Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California and Nevada around 10:45 to 11 p.m. Monday.
