Attention, downtown Bend drivers: Olney Avenue-Wall Street intersection closes Monday for months of work
Intersection expected to reopen in June; other work, area road impacts continue until fall
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A head's up to those who travel to or through downtown Bend: The intersection of Olney Avenue and Wall Street will close next Monday to accommodate construction of the city's Olney Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Project, as well as water and sewer infrastructure work.
To increase efficiency, save money and reduce construction impacts, water, sewer and stormwater improvements will be completed during the Olney project construction, the city said in Wednesday's annnouncement.
The closure will extend from the intersection of Portland Avenue/Steidl Road on the west side of the Deschutes River through the intersection of Wall Street/Olney Avenue to NE First Street.
The intersection of Olney Avenue and Wall Street is anticipated to reopen to vehicle traffic in June.
Construction on Olney Avenue from First Street through Second Street will require periodic intersection and road closures in spring and summer. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall.
Detours will be posted. Drivers should expect to use NW Ninth Street, Newport Avenue, NE Third Street, Revere Avenue and southbound US 97 (the Parkway) to get around the intersection.
The Deschutes River Trail will be maintained through the road closure for pedestrians and cyclists.
Business access will remain open during construction and signage will direct alternate routes, the city said.
Sections of Olney Avenue will be completely closed, as necessary, during construction. Access to Riverside Animal Hospital at 25 NW Olney Avenue will be on Norton Avenue just south of Wall Street Suites (where it bisects parking lots).
