BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Last week's three-day Deschutes County-wide traffic safety enforcement blitz and the hundreds of tickets that resulted have understandably brought many comments to Bend Police, as well as questions, chief among them: Where does that ticket revenue go?

The Bend Police Department sought to provide some answers in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

If a Bend officer cites a driver for exceeding the speed limit by 15 mph, that typically results in a $165 speeding ticket.

"Of that $165, a fixed amount ($50) goes to the State of Oregon and another fixed amount of $16 goes to Deschutes County," the posting said.

The remaining ($99) goes to the city of Bend’s general fund. The city allocates general fund money to all of its departments, including the Bend Police Department.

"Officers don’t have ticket quotas, and they don’t get any incentives for writing a certain amount," the city said, closing the post with a plea for motorists: "We ask everyone to slow down, stay off their phones and give other drivers lots of room while out on our roads!"
