City of Bend plans open house to show planned bridge design for Reed Market Road railroad crossing

January 2025 KTVZ News report on federal funds for Reed Market Railroad Crossing Project

(Update: More details from city on current timeline, plans)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The city of Bend is inviting community members to an open house to learn more about the new bridge design that will cross the railroad tracks on Reed Market Road.

A preferred bridge design for the long-awaited crossing has been selected, and the project team is currently refining details and securing the necessary approvals, the city said in a brief news release Wednesday that continues below:

This drop-in style event will take place on Monday, Nov. 3 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Larkspur Community Center (1600 SE Reed Market Road).

City staff and project designers will be on hand to share updates, answer questions, and talk through what’s ahead, there will be no formal presentation.

This is the second open house for the Reed Market Road Bridge Project and will highlight how community feedback helped shape the preferred bridge design and the planned Ninth Street connection. Information about other projects taking place nearby will also be available at the open house.

For those unable to attend in person, the same open house materials will be available online beginning Nov. 3 at bendoregon.gov/reedmarketbridge.

A city representative told KTVZ News Wednesday that construction on the crossing is scheduled currently to start in mid-2027.

The current design "would allow us to keep Ninth Street tied into Reed Market," city Community Relations Manager Jacob Larsen told us.

The city received word earlier this year it was to receive $32 million in federal funds to fix the frequent traffic backups on the busy road.
