Caldera Springs in Sunriver expands amenities, adds new elements for visitors, residents to enjoy

(Update: Adding video, comments from staff)

SUNRIVER, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Sunriver Resort recently announced the expansion of its residential resort community --  Caldera Springs.

"I think guests are excited about the new opportunities here at caldera springs and excited to try something new out," Sunriver Resort Director of Sales and Marketing Lindsay Borkowski said Wednesday.

Full-time owners like Tom Sidley are happy to be part of the Caldera Springs community.

"It's a very warm, inviting community, and it's growing," he said. "We feel very lucky to live here."

Caldera Springs has brought three new amenities to its site: The new look for the Lake House, as well as the grand opening of Forest House and Forest Park.

The Lake House marks Sunriver Resort's 11th restaurant, and it's open to the public. It has been redone for indoor-outdoor dining.

Chef de Cuisine Krista Matheis said, "We've had a lot of positive feedback at the Lake House, especially on our patio seating and having dinner right in front of Obsidian Lake, enjoying the sunset with your friends and family."

The Forest House serves as a gathering place for family and friends.

Borkowski said, "We also added Forest House, which is our brand new aquatic and recreation facility that is exclusive for guests of Caldera Springs that rent through Sunriver Resort and owners in Caldera Springs."

As for Forest Park, it includes pickleball courts, a dog park and a sledding hill during winter.

Caldera Springs offers more than amenities to folks.

Sidley said, "There's so many great people here. They're all very socially active. They like to go out and do enjoy the central Oregon experience. So we've made a lot of great friends."

Lake House at Caldera Springs is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Here is the full press release, issued last month:

Sunriver Resort, the Pacific Northwest's treasured resort destination located 15 miles from Bend, OR, and managed by CoralTree Hospitality, today announced the expansion of their amenity offerings at Caldera Springs, the region's premier residential resort community adjacent to Sunriver Resort.

The Lake House at Caldera Springs has been reimagined as Central Oregon's premier waterfront dining destination, featuring stunning views of Obsidian Lake and Mt. Bachelor, indoor-outdoor dining, and an al fresco lakeside companion venue called Shore Shack—all open to the public.

Additionally, the debut of Forest House, with multiple outdoor pools, one of Oregon’s longest dual-racer slides, a fitness center, and a family recreation center, offers exclusive access to Caldera Springs homeowners and guests staying in a Sunriver Resort vacation home at Caldera Springs.

Forest Park, a four-season adventure park featuring pickleball courts, a dog park, dedicated play areas, and a sledding hill during the winter, is also included in this expansion.

Part of a $100 million-plus master plan reimagination and update to Sunriver Resort and Caldera Springs, these new experiences continue Caldera Springs' 600-acre expansion, which began in 2021 with the commitment to build new vacation homes, release new homesites, and develop parks, trails, lakes, streams, and amenities.

This initiative enhances real estate offerings, ownership, and Sunriver Resort guest experiences. This news follows recent announcements, including the launch of The Club at Sunriver Resort, Sunriver Golf Club, the reimaging of The Spa at Sunriver Resort, introduction of an 18-court indoor-outdoor pickleball complex, and upgraded River Lodge and Lodge Village resort guestrooms.

The Reimagined Lake House

Always the heart of the Caldera Springs community, the architecturally impressive Lake House has been transformed into an entirely new dining and social experience designed to maximize iconic views spanning from Obsidian Lake to the majestic Mount Bachelor. Destined to become Central Oregon's most coveted waterfront dining destination and channeling the nostalgic warmth of classic Pacific Northwest lake houses, the reimagined indoor-outdoor spaces feature expansive window walls, floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, and open-air dining areas. Organic materials and an inviting, warm ambiance embrace the spirit of Central Oregon, while contemporary touches provide the utmost comfort. Guests can savor the flavors of the region while immersing themselves in the natural beauty of Caldera Springs.

Lake House marks Sunriver Resort’s 11th restaurant, is open to the public, and includes

  • Dining Room: The main dining room is the restaurant's centerpiece and is complemented by sliding doors that open to the outdoors and offer commanding views from every table.
  • Bar & Lounge: This cozy, lodge-style space features a fireplace and breathtaking lake views enhanced by expansive windows. Guests can indulge in the full food and drink menu.
  • Outdoor Patio: Guests can unwind in the outdoor dining area, which features seating for 100, an outdoor fireplace, and a fire pit, creating an inviting space for memorable gatherings. This lakeside area is ideal for casual meals, special occasions, and roasting s’mores under the starlit sky.
  • Shore Shack: Located on the southwest side of the Lake House, this versatile outdoor walkup bar offers an experience of its own. From your morning coffee and pastries to a full menu for lunch and dinner.
  • The Outpost: Adventure awaits at this one-stop-shack, which offers convenient check-in for golf enthusiasts and equipment rentals for bikes, paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes.

Led by Chef de Cuisine Krista Matheis, the Lake House serves seasonal modern American cuisine with Northwest-inspired highlights. The menu features a range of casual and upscale fare, including high desert grass-fed beef burgers, wild mushroom grilled cheese, Oregon berry salads, seared salmon, bone-in pork chop, and New York strip steak frites. American classics like fried green tomatoes and crab cakes complement the offerings, while a fantastic selection of Oregon wines, specialty cocktails, and craft local beers are served daily.
