Community Conversations: ‘Voiceless: A Musical’ tells one local woman’s journey back to her voice

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A new musical based on a true story is hitting the local stage with a powerful message and plenty of heart.

“It’s about a woman who loses her voice from a condition called muscle tension dysphonia… and it’s her journey back to her voice,” said composer Deena Kamm.

Producer Debbie Levin says the show is part of a bigger mission.

“We pick a play or musical that has a central theme that really needs more discussion,” she said. “They’re local stories and local panelists.”

Kamm, also a voice coach, adds, “The majority of the people that I work with feel the way this lead character feels regularly, so it's nice to be able to honor that.”

Voiceless opens next Thursday, July 24th, with a special sensory-friendly, ASL-interpreted show on Sunday, July 27th. Tickets and more information are available at voicelessamusical.com.
