PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon health officials on Saturday announced one new death from the novel coronavirus, for a total of 87, and 76 new confirmed cases.

The numbers released Saturday by the Oregon Health Authority bring Oregon's total number of cases to 2,253, along with 45,124 negative test results.

The new COVID-19 cases reported Saturday are in the following counties: Benton (1), Clackamas (5), Coos (4), Deschutes (1, for a total of 71), Jackson (1), Jefferson (3, for a total of 5), Linn (4), Marion (15), Multnomah (27), Polk (4), Umatilla (3), Washington (8).

The new Jefferson County cases are apparently among four COVID-19 cases reported on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in recent days.

Oregon’s 87th COVID-19 death was a 59-year-old man in Lane County who tested positive on April 14 and died on Thursday at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. He had underlying medical conditions.

Deschutes County has now had 71 COVID-19 cases and 1,597 negative test results. Crook County has had one case and 173 negative results, while Jefferson County has had five cases and 184 negative results.

Multnomah County had had 35 of the 87 deaths, while Marion County has had 14 deaths, Washington County 10 deaths, Linn County seven deaths, Yamhill County six deaths, two deaths in Lane County and one each in Josephine and Polk counties.

For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness or death.
