Bend-La Pine Schools add two makeup days at end of school year after last month’s snow-related closures

Bend-La Pine Schools

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend-La Pine Schools officials told families in a message Thursday afternoon that they will extend the school year by two days to compensate for lost instructional time due to two snow-related closures during last month's storms.

"We will have school on Monday, June 17, and Tuesday, June 18," the message stated.

In this year’s student/family calendar, those dates were designated as potential makeup days for inclement weather/emergency closures.

The school district said the calendar change will not affect their graduations schedule between June 6 and 11.

Here are schedule details they noted:

  • Wednesday, June 12, will now be a School Improvement Wednesday (SIW) early-release day.
  • Friday, June 14, will now be a regular (full schedule) day, instead of early release for the last day of school.
  • Tuesday, June 18, will be an early-release day (90 minutes, following our SIW schedule) for the new last day of school.

The school district had three inclement weather closures in January, with two of these days falling on early-release Wednesdays. The district has decided to make up two of these days in June.
