Central Oregonians dropping off ballots talk about the importance of voting: Why every vote matters

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – As election season wraps up, communities nationwide are encouraged to exercise their right to vote.

This election season, voters say they are looking for something specific in the candidates, including voters who were dropping off their ballots Monday evening at a Bend drop box.

Bend resident Avdiel Valdez said: "I think somebody that's like, well-educated, that carries himself well and is respected, especially by other world leaders.”

Experts emphasize that voting isn’t just about selecting leaders. It’s about choosing the direction of policies on health care, education and the economy.

Bend resident Allison Stameisen said, “In this election season, I would really like to see them address our food system and health care.”

Voting gives citizens the power to help shape their government, influence policy and advocate for issues that matter to them.

Bend resident Kerri Lyons said, “What's important to me is that everyone has a voice and that whatever the outcome of this election is, that we're able to accommodate and work together, to make sure that we can protect the future of what we're going to experience over the next four years.”

In recent years, voter turnout has fluctuated, highlighting a pressing need for greater civic engagement.

Officials are actively encouraging eligible voters to participate, noting that even a single vote can swing a close election.

As the polls open across the country, the message is clear: Voting is not just a right, but it's a responsibility that has a lasting impact on society.
