Decision 2024: Emerson Levy defeats Keri Lopez in House race; Anthony Broadman tops Michael Summers for Senate seat

(Update: Adding video, comments from Broadman, Levy)

BEND, Ore.(KTVZ) -- Democrats won two closely watched Bend legislative races when the ballots were counted Tuesday night.

Rep. Emerson Levy defeated Republican challenger Keri Lopez to win a second term in Salem.

"I am just so looking forward to going back to Salem," Levy said. "We have so many, so much big work to do, so many bills to write. I'm just honored to have the trust of the community."

Lopez conceded to Levy Tuesday night.

Levy said she's going to continue working in a bipartisan fashion, reaching across the aisle to get tasks completed.

"I'll continue to serve on housing (committee) and work on energy policy and water policy," she said.

Bend attorney and City Councilor Anthony Broadman defeated Redmond businessman Michael Summers for the Senate District 27 seat previously held by Tim Knopp.

Broadman had more than 47,000 votes, to nearly 33,000 for Summers.

Broadman said, "I think we brought together Republicans and Democrats and independents from across Redmond and Sisters and Deschutes County. "

He said he believes Deschutes County is ready for a change.

"Hopefully, tonight signals an end to legislative walkouts for good and a focus on practical, good government," Broadman said.

We reached out to both of their opponents, asking for an interview or statement, and have not heard back.
