Rep. Breese-Iverson, fellow lawmaker support 6 policy recommendations to quickly boost housing production
SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) – State Sen. Dick Anderson (R-Lincoln City) and Rep. Vikki Breese-Iverson (R-Prineville) released a memo this week outlining six short-term policy recommendations to boost housing production following the Housing Production Advisory Council’s preliminary set of 59 long-term policy recommendations.
Among their recommendations: requiring cities to process building permits and development plans within 90 days and state agencies complete approval within 21 days of completed application.
They also recommend that system development charges (SDCs) be allowed to be paid at the end of a build, vs. the beginning.
“Every member regardless of party understands that Oregon needs more housing of all types, and we need it now. After countless committee discussions and follow-up meetings, Rep. Breese-Iverson and I came up with 6 practicable steps we can take to catalyze home production right away,” said Senator Anderson, Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Housing and Development.
“I am hopeful the Governor and our colleagues across the aisle will join us in a true housing renaissance for Oregonians,” said Breese-Iverson, Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Housing and Homelessness. “We must open up land for building, streamline the process, invest in real community assets, and then get the heck out of the way.”
