Governor Kotek recall effort hits milestone

(UPDATE: ADDED VIDEO)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A La Pine man leading the effort on a Governor recall has made significant strides.

William Minnix, President of Oregon for the People, launched a petition to recall Oregon Governor Tina Kotek.

KTVZ spoke with Minnix about how his recall is going.

Minnix told KTVZ “Lately, it's really taken off like a firecracker. We have, volunteers in Portland, Salem, Clackamas County and various other counties are working really hard, getting, hundreds of signatures. Thousands, if not per day.”

In order for a recall to happen, a petitioner must formalize the petition with the State Secretary of State. After that, the Petitioner has to receive 15 percent of the total votes from the last Governor election. In this case, that is almost 293 thousand signatures.

When KTVZ spoke to Minnix, he told us that the petition has gotten more than half way to the goal.

“And it was really surprising. We were getting people from all aisles Independents, Democrats and Republicans," Minnix told KTVZ News. "People are sick and tired of what's going on with our taxes and with what's going on with, how it's being spent. They want to change.”

KTVZ reached out to Governor Koteks office who forwarded us to the Campaign and we have not heard back.
