Sonar helps searchers find Klamath Lake kayaker’s body
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A special sonar device was able to help divers find and recover the body of a Chiloquin-area man whose kayak overturned on Klamath Lake earlier in the week, Klamath Falls sheriff's deputies said.
The sheriff's office Dive Rescue Division found the body of Roger Combs, 52, around 3 p.m. Friday, deputies said. He had been reported missing on Monday evening and was believed to have overturned in a kayak launched from the Modoc Point area, near Chiloquin.
The sheriff's office had used a variety of air, land and water resources to look for Combs, Public Information Officer/Emergency Manager Brandon Fowler said.
Volunteers from Dive Rescue and SmallBoat Rescue used side-scan sonar and were able to locate Combs' body. Sheriff's patrol and marine deputies assisted in the recovery.
Sheriff Chris Kaber said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Combs, and our thanks go out to the volunteers, deputies and citizens who spent many hours in the search and recovery of Mr. Combs."
