(Update: Missing La Pine man found)
La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Wednesday a missing La Pine man who left a doctor’s appointment Tuesday morning and didn’t return to the memory care facility where he lives has been found safe in Madras.
Fred Arthur Charley, 45, who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and dementia, last had been seen around 9:30 a.m. at the St. Charles Family Care clinic in La Pine, Sergeant Jason Wall said.
Charley "has been located in the Madras area and is no longer considered a missing person," Wall said in Thursday's update, adding, "The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the community for all of their assistance."
Charley was described as a Native American male, about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, with shoulder-length black hair. He last was seen wearing a red and blue jacket with tribal markings, tan pants and gray Nike shoes.
Wall had said that Charley, who doesn’t have a vehicle or cellphone, frequently visits Madras and Warm Springs and might be trying to get a ride to those areas, because they are familiar to him.
The sheriff’s office, concerned about his exposure to the cold winter weather, had asked the public for any information on Charley’s whereabouts.
