Firefighters called out on NE Madras brush fire instead find, douse outbuilding blaze; losses estimated at $20,000
MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A report of a brush fire in a northeast Madras neighborhood early Saturday morning brought out fire crews who instead found and put out a blaze that caused an estimated $20,000 damage to an outbuilding on Lakeside Drive and its contents, officials said.
Jefferson County Fire & EMS firefighters were dispatched around 4:40 a.m. to the report of a brush fire with smoke in the neighborhood, Deputy Chief of Prevention Jared Earnest said.
The first crews on scene instead found a smoke column arising from a structure on the opposite side of the reported area, he said. The firefighters had to relocate to make access off 10th Street.
Crews were able to gain access into a 1,200-square-foot outbuilding on the property and extinguish the flames, Earnest said.
A structure engine, ladder truck and water tender were sent to the scene, along with two ambulances and a command vehicle.
No injuries were reported from the fire, with an initial loss estimate of $20,000 to the structure and contents.
The cause of the fire was under investigation by Jefferson County Fire & EMS and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.
