Madras police chase, quickly arrest man accused of stealing knife at one store, threatening worker at another
MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A man who stole a knife from the Madras Bi-Mart and threatened a Domino’s Pizza worker with it ran away Tuesday afternoon but was caught and arrested by police without any injuries, Police Chief Tim Plummer said.
Madras officers responded around 1:40 p.m. to reports of an armed subject near Highway 97 in Madras, Plummer said.
The 30-year-old Warm Springs man was reported to have first entered Bi-Mart, where he allegedly stole a knife. "He then proceeded to threaten a Domino's store employee with the weapon before fleeing the scene on foot in an attempt to evade custody," Plummer said in a news release.
Officers quickly spotted the man and began a brief pursuit. He was arrested at 1: 49 p.m. without further incident and transported to the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office for booking into the jail.
"No injuries to officers, civilians or the suspect were reported," the police chief said.
The man will be charged with disorderly conduct, robbery, theft, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing.
Plummer added, "The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available. Authorities confirm that there is no ongoing threat to public safety."
“We appreciate the community’s cooperation and patience as we resolved the situation swiftly and safely,” said Chief Plummer.
