(Update: Findings of initial investigation)

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Three people were killed and several others were injured, two critically, Friday evening in the collision of a pickup and minivan at a northeast Salem intersection, Marion County sheriff's deputies and fire officials reported.

Deputies and medics were dispatched around 7:25 p.m. to the reported crash of a Ford F-350 and a Chevy passenger van on Corden Road NE near Sunnyview Road NE.

Three fatalities were reported and at least three other occupants were taken to area hospitals with injuries, deputies said. The cause of the crash was under investigation and names were not released, pending family notifications.

Fire officials said the T-bone crash occurred at the intersection and three of the 13 people in the van died at the scene. Two others were in critical condition and several had lesser or minor injuries. The driver of the pickup also was transported for evaluation.

Deputies said Saturday an initial investigation found the pickup driver was heading west on Sunnyview Road and the van was heading east and made a left-hand turn in front of the pickup. They said both drivers are cooperating with investigators.

It was the second fatal crash in an hour in Marion County. Around 6:30 p.m., a Honda Civic rear-ended a tractor in the 64000 block of Lakeside Drive NE, killing the car's driver and lone occupant, identified as, Danny Stacey, 71, of Salem. The tractor operator was not injured, deputies said.
