JOHN DAY, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A Sheridan man was killed on U.S. Highway 26 near John Day Saturday afternoon when his Jeep went into the oncoming lane on a curve and collided with a commercial truck, Oregon State Police reported.

Troopers and emergency personnel responded around 4:30 p.m. to the reported crash near milepost 150 in Grant County.

OSP said a preliminary investigation found that a 1967 Jeep driven by Lawrence Goings, 56, of Sheridan, was heading east in a right-hand curve when it traveled into the westbound lane and collided with a truck driven by Mike Brown, 65, of Powell Butte.

Goings died at the scene, troopers said, while Brown was uninjured.

OSP was assisted at the scene by EMTs from Blue Mountain Hospital, the Mt. Vernon Fire Department, ODOT and the John Day Police Department.
