OSP: Linn County sheriff’s deputy fatally shoots domestic violence suspect who moved toward him, refused to drop rifle

LEBANON, Ore. (KTVZ) – Oregon State Police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in which a man reportedly fired a gun during a domestic dispute and later “advanced aggressively” toward a responding Linn County sheriff’s deputy, refusing commands to drop his rifle.

Deputies were dispatched around 8:15 p.m. Thursday to an address on Speasl Road near Lebanon in response to a reported domestic dispute that involved a firearm, troopers said. While deputies were on their way, the gun reportedly was discharged at the home.

Deputies arrived and found the reported suspect, Gino Anthony Marcoccia, 49, of Lebanon, outside the home.

OSP said Marcoccia “was armed with a rifle and advanced aggressively towards one of the responding deputies,” not complying with any command by deputies to drop his rifle.

“Marcoccia, with the gun in hand, advanced directly towards one of the deputies, closing the distance with him.” OSP said in Friday’s release. “That deputy discharged his firearm and Marcoccia fell to the ground and dropped his rifle.”

Deputies immediately removed the rifle to a safer distance and began emergency medical aid, OSP said, but Marcoccia died at the scene.

No law enforcement members were injured, troopers said.

"Pursuant to Linn County Use of Deadly Force (SB 111) protocols, the Oregon State Police is investigating the officer-involved shooting, and any involved law enforcement members have been placed on paid administrative leave by their respective agencies," OSP said.
