Police police, aided by K-9, seize $2 million worth of drugs on I-5, one of the largest one-day drug busts in city history
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Portland Police Bureau on Friday announced one of the largest single-day seizures of illegal drugs in Portland Police history, with an estimated street value of about $2 million.
On Thursday, investigators from PPB’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit/HIDTA Interdiction Taskforce seized 90 pounds of methamphetamine, 11 pounds of fentanyl and 3.8 pounds of heroin during a highway interdiction on Interstate 5 in the Portland area.
"The investigation is ongoing and long-term in nature, so specifics about the case cannot be released at this time," the news release stated, but photos of the seized drugs were released, including one showing Portland Police drug-detection K-9 Stitch.
NOC/HIDTA find that a significant amount of illegal narcotics enter Portland via vehicles on the Interstate 5 corridor, and that is a priority for ongoing enforcement and drug interdiction.
The HIDTA Interdiction Team (HIT) is a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force that identifies, disrupts, and dismantles local, multi-state, and international drug trafficking organizations using intelligence-driven, multi-agency, prosecutor-supported approach.
HIT is supported by Oregon-Idaho High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) which is composed of members from the Portland Police Bureau, Homeland Security Investigations, Oregon State Police, Internal Revenue Service, United States Postal Inspection Service, Amtrak Police, and Oregon National Guard Counter-Drug Task Force.
