VALE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- On Monday, March 31st, the public comment period for a lithium-drilling project in Vale, Oregon (Malheur County) will close.

The McDermitt Lithium Exploration Project has been in the works since 2023.

It would allow HiTech Minerals, Inc. to install more than 250 drill sites across 7,200 acres of public lands.

The McDermitt Caldera is thought to have some of the highest concentrations of lithium in the United States.

So far, nearly 900 submissions have been received.
