Lost seal pup rescued on the Oregon Coast, safely returned to the ocean

CANNON BEACH, Ore. -- A baby seal is back where it belongs after a rescue effort on the Oregon Coast.

The Haystack Rock Awareness Program in Cannon Beach shared a video on facebook, showing the seal pup making its way back to the water. The organization said the young seal had wandered into town and needed help finding its way home.

With assistance from the Seaside Aquarium and Cannon Beach Police Department, responders safely transported the pup back to the beach for release.

The Haystack Rock Awareness Program used the rescue as an opportunity to remind the the public not to approach or interfere with wildlife. Anyone who spots an animal in distress should contact their local police non-emergency line, or a designated wildlife agency instead.
