Former Redmond gymnastics coach arrested on luring, abuse charges
Police seek information about any other inappropriate relationships
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A former Redmond Gymnastics Academy coach has been arrested on sex abuse and other charges, accused of having a relationship with an underage student at the academy, police said Thursday.
A five-month investigation led to Wednesday's arrest of Kellee Christian Johnson, 25, of Redmond on charges of multiple sex crimes, Lt. Jesse Petersen said.
Johnson was not the primary coach for the victim, who was under the age of 18, but did attend competitions the victim participated in, Petersen said.
Johnson was lodged at the Deschutes County Jail and was arraigned Thursday on initial charges of luring a minor for sexual conduct, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, three counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of third-degree sexual abuse.
He remained jailed later Thursday, held on $50,000 bail, and is scheduled for arraignment on an expected formal indictment on May 14.
The DA's initial charging document lists two alleged victims, one between Dec. 1, 2019 and Jan. 5, 2020 and a second on or about July 4, 2017.
Petersen said the gymnastics academy initially reported the incident to the police.
"The department appreciates the cooperation we have received from RGA during this investigation," he wrote in a news release. "The incident has also been reported to U.S. Center for SafeSports, who handles all reports of sexual abuse and child abuse within the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Movements."
Petersen said Redmond police are seeking information anyone may have regarding Kellee Johnson and any inappropriate relationships he may have had with other minors.
