‘We probably wouldn’t have moved’: Redmond family urges renters to be cautious after challenging experience
(Update: Adding video, comments from family)
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- In October, NewsChannel 21 spoke with a Redmond family about their experience living at the RedPoint Apartments.
Chris Armstrong says one of their bathrooms flooded the unit below.
"My son went in there to use the shower. He had it on for barely two minutes, and my neighbor downstairs came running upstairs and said, 'It's flooding,'" he recalled.
On top of the bathroom issues, the family tells NewsChannel 21 they have had multiple electrical problems and safety concerns, stating a convicted felon and registered sex offender lived next door.
Armstrong said he was hopeful the bathroom would be repaired, but says it's gotten worse.
"They tore the tub out like behind there, said, 'It's the spigot you need to have it replaced.' So the plumber came out the next day and replaced it," Armstrong shared while giving a tour of his bathroom. "He left the old one here, which was a big help for everything that happened after that."
In an email exchange with Armstrong, property management claimed the family intentionally flooded the bathroom. Avenue 5 says plumbers found no issues with the bathroom and say the source of the flooding came from an overflowing tub or toilet.
"We have our suspicions," Armstrong said. "It's probably an attempt to get what they can from it, instead of actually, you know, going, 'This wasn't repaired right' and just fixing it."
Armstrong is now working with his insurance company and attorney to ensure his family does not have to pay any more money,
"I'm just hoping that people, you know - my advice is really research where you're going before you go there," he said. "If we'd known a lot of what we do now, we probably wouldn't have moved in."
NewsChannel 21 reached out to Avenue 5 for comment concerning Armstrong's claims and issues, as of this publication, they have not responded our request.
Armstrong did share that they were compensated for two months of their $2,100-a-month rent.
