After 45 years, part of town's very fabric will go virtual for a year

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show announced Thursday that it will cancel this year's events, including the July 11 main show, which has been part of the fabric of Sisters for nearly a half-century. It will be "reimagined" into a virtual event instead.

“Our priority continues to be the health and safety of our volunteers, guests and all community members, and as such we are following the best health protocols at this time. Sadly, that includes restructuring what our show day will look like,” Dawn Boyd, executive director of SOQS stated in a news release.

For 45 years, the summer event has blanketed the entire town with up to 1,400 quilts, offering a rainbow of art and color and welcoming many thousands of visitors who travel to Sisters from around the world.

"This year’s show will be REIMAGINED into a virtual experience," the announcement said.

"SOQS guests will be able to see many of the same exhibits and exciting quilt displays that we already have planned, but they will enjoy show day online from the safety of their homes."

“Ultimately, the SOQS Board is committed to celebrating our 45th anniversary this year, " Boyd said. "This may look different from previous years, but we will continue to embrace the beauty and art of quilting with everyone.

“I am so sorry that this difficult decision had to be made, but I believe that it is the right one at this time," she said. "As people - and quilters - one of our greatest strengths is our capacity to adjust and be flexible when necessary. This is especially important to remember during these times.”

SOQS will continue to post updates on virtual show day activities via their social media accounts and website.
