Bend woman charged with DUII, assault in NE Bend injury crash

MGN

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Bend woman was charged with drunken driving and assault Thursday night after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 in northeast Bend that sent two men in the other car to the hospital, one with serious injuries, police said.

Police and fire medics were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. to the reported crash at the intersection of Northeast Highway 20 and Azure Avenue, Cpl. Josh Spano.

An initial investigation found that the 24-year-old Bend woman was driving east on the highway with a passenger in a 1990 Mercedes station wagon when she lost control, went over the median and ended up facing west in the westbound lanes, Spano said.

Her vehicle was then rear-ended at highway speeds by a 1993 VW Cabriolet, a crash that totaled both vehicles.

A 28-year-old Oregon man was taken to St. Charles Bend with serious injuries and a 24-year-old Ohio man with minor injuries.

The woman was visibly intoxicated, Spano said, and evidence was seized during the investigation. She was arrested by citation and released on charges of DUII-alcohol, reckless driving and second- and fourth-degree assault.
