Bend man killed in Hwy. 97 Wasco County crash
SHANIKO, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Bend man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening on U.S. Highway 97 south of Shaniko in Wasco County, Oregon State Police reported.
Troopers and emergency personnel responded around 5:45 p.m. to the reported crash near milepost 59, about three miles south of Shaniko, troopers said.
A preliminary investigation found that Jeffery Murphy, 61, was driving a Chevy pickup towing a fifth-wheel travel trailer heading north when it left the road, rolling down a steep embankment, OSP said.
Murphy sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
OSP was assisted at the scene by South Wasco County Fire, Juniper Flat Fire and Rescue and ODOT.
