Klamath County man arrested in Bend Hwy. 97 road rage, shooting incident
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A man from Bonanza was arrested Tuesday in a guns-drawn traffic stop in northeast Bend, accused of firing a gunshot in a “road rage” incident a short time earlier near Highway 97 and Knott Road on the south end of town, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
The sheriff’s office received a report shortly before noon from a driver who said he was involved in a road rage incident with a man in a red Dodge Ram pickup truck. The reporting party said the driver displayed a pistol and apparently fired a shot, Sgt. Jayson Janes said.
Area law enforcement agencies were advised to be on the lookout for the pickup, which was located by a Bend police officer who conducted a “high-risk” traffic stop near Highway 97 and Empire Boulevard.
The driver, Danny Shipman Jr.,55, of the Klamath County town of Bonanza, was arrested without incident.
Deputies said they got a statement from the reporting party and found evidence in Shipman’s truck that corroborated the other driver’s information, Janes said.
Shipman was booked into the county jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, menacing, reckless endangering and reckless driving. He was released from jail later Tuesday after posting 10% of his $30,000 bail, a jail officer said.
