‘Black Fur-day has been amazing’: Humane Society of C.O. sends animals to loving homes
(Update: Adding video, comments from staff, possible adopters)
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Animals at the Humane Society of Central Oregon were adopted, thanks to "Black Fur-day." The event brought many people to its doors on Friday and Saturday.
The adoption fees for all animals were waived on those two days.
"This year we were surprised," Lynne Ouchida, HSCO's Director of Community Partnerships said Saturday. "We love to see people waiting outside our door 45 minutes before we opened, all anxious to take a look at our animals."
On Friday, there were 13 animals adopted. As for Saturday, there were 6 dogs, 5 cats, and 3 rabbits looking for forever homes.
Redmond resident Bob Stillwell said, "We're looking for a companion for her," Bob pointed to his wife, Cindy. "Basically throughout the day. We're, just ready to make an addition to our family, basically is what we're here for."
An adoption care package contains a spay or neuter, getting up to date on vaccines, and de-worming.
Bend resident Brent Mackenzie said, "It's easier to sell a house with less pets. But we're kind of like kind of over waiting. So we're thinking about getting a cat pretty soon here."
The Black Fur-day and Saturday adoption special was a huge success.
HSCO volunteer, Renee Brooke said, "It's great. With the promotion, almost all adoption fees waived. Black Fur-day has been amazing. I've never seen the shelter this empty in the two years that I volunteered here."
The Humane Society of Central Oregon helps more than 6,000 animals and their people each year.
