Democratic lawmakers and protesters rally outside Treasury Department to oppose Elon Musk’s role in government
WASHINGTON (KTVZ) -- Opponents of tech billionaire Elon Musk's involvement in the Trump administration held a "Nobody Elected Elon" rally outside the U.S. Treasury building in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.
Musk is serving as a special government employee, has an office at the White House, and is heading up the new Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.
Several lawmakers railed against Musk at the rally, including Oregon Senator Ron Wyden and Representative Janelle Bynum.
They took aim at Musk at the rally after he was granted access to the U.S. Treasuries payment systems. That's the closely guarded system that handles the government's money flow.
This includes programs like Social Security and Medicare.
They said someone who was not elected should not have so much influence, control, and access to sensitive data.
