Oregon Senator Ron Wyden supports War Powers Resolution to limit Trump’s Iran war authority
WASHINGTON, D.C. (KTVZ)-- U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden voted in favor of the War Powers Resolution to limit President Donald Trump's authority to wage war with Iran.
The resolution aims to restrict the executive branch's ability to conduct military operations against Iran. Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, supported the measure amid ongoing tensions and military activity in the Middle East.
In a statement released following the vote, Wyden addressed the administration's current military strategy in the region. He noted that the escalation of conflict contradicts previous rhetoric regarding long-term military commitments.
Sen. Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, criticized the president's decision-making in the Middle East. "Despite campaigning against forever wars... Trump has dragged our country into yet another costly and counterproductive war in the Middle East that is already costing American lives," Wyden said.
The senator characterized the ongoing military engagement as both costly and counterproductive to national interests. He specifically highlighted that the conflict has already resulted in the loss of American lives.
