Warm Springs Tribal Police, FBI identify ‘person of interest’ in weekend death
Few details released; police chief says 'no general public safety concern'
WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (KTVZ) – Police responding to a suspicious circumstances report Saturday evening found a Warm Springs man who died despite life-saving efforts, prompting an investigation and the identification of a “person of interest,” Police Chief Bill Elliott said Monday.
Warm Springs Tribal Police Department officers responding to the report in the Greeley Heights area of Warm Springs found a man identified as Jonathan Gilbert “in a life-threatening situation,” Elliott said in a news release, declining to release further specifics due to the ongoing investigation.
Officers attempted CPR and other life-saving procedures, but the alleged victim died before emergency medical personnel arrived, Elliott said.
An investigation involving tribal police officers and the FBI “developed a person of interest in this matter,” the police chief said.
Forensics teams were called to the scene, Elliott said, and Gilbert was taken to the medical examiner’s office to determine an official cause of death.
“At this time, we believe there is no general public safety concern, and the investigation is continuing,” the police chief added.
