BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A Deschutes County Animal Control technician took the plunge over the weekend, jumping into a retention pond to rescue a trapped and tiring fawn.

A concerned citizen had contacted 911 dispatchers around 5 p.m. Saturday to report two fawns appeared to be stuck in the pond on a property along Deschutes Market Road.

As deputies responded, the caller reported that one of the fawns managed to escape the pond, but the other was struggling and beginning to panic.

Deputies arrived and tried without success to guide the trapped fawn out of the pond.

Animal Control Technician Treyton Plamondon arrived and distributed catch poles, to try to snag the fawn and pull it to safety. But the fawn appeared to be tiring itself out while evading rescue attempts.

“Believing the only viable solution to saving the fawn’s life was to take a plunge,” Plamondon jumped into the pond and rescued the fawn, which was later released elsewhere on the property, well away from the pond.
