Jared Kushner is expected to appear before January 6 committee this week

By Zachary Cohen and Annie Grayer, CNN

Jared Kushner, son-in-law and former senior adviser to then-President Donald Trump, is expected to appear this week before the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection, according to two sources familiar with the planning.

Kushner is expected to appear voluntarily, and the meeting will likely be virtual, the source said.

A committee spokesman declined to comment on Kusher’s expected appearance, which ABC News first reported.

CNN reported last month that Trump’s daughter Ivanka, who is married to Kushner and also served as senior White House adviser, was in discussions with the House select committee to voluntarily appear for an interview, her spokesperson and two sources familiar with the probe confirmed to CNN at the time.

The meeting comes at significant moment for the committee where its investigation is making progress on multiple fronts. The panel is also seeking an interview with Ginni Thomas, the conservative activist and wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, following revelations that Ginni Thomas texted with former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in an effort to overturn the election.

Also on Monday, a federal judge said Trump and right-wing attorney John Eastman may have been planning a crime as they sought to disrupt the January 6 congressional certification of the presidential election. The judge in California ordered Eastman to turn over 101 emails from around January 6, 2021, that he has tried to keep secret from the House select committee investigating the US Capitol attack.
