REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Redmond girls basketball team dominated their rivalry matchup against Ridgeview, securing a commanding 49-8 victory in front of a packed crowd Monday night.

The Panthers, now 2-0 in league play, are coming together as a team and building confidence as they push through the season.

"I think we're really coming together as a team and starting to play everything together. So I think we're feeling really confident going into league (play)," said senior Aspen Morris.

For many on the team, playing in front of longtime supporters made the victory even more special.

"It's so cool!" Morris added. "I know a lot of our fans have been watching us since we were little. So it's amazing to finally put everything together in this big stadium."

A key contributor to the team's success has been guard Dylan Cheney, who recently set a school record with eight three-pointers in a single game.

"Honestly, it's so fun for me," Cheney said. "I'm like, 'Okay, I'm just going to get another one. Got to get another one.' And it's good to stay positive with myself."

Currently ranked fourth in the state with eight games remaining before the postseason, the Panthers are determined to keep their momentum going.

"I think we're pretty confident," Cheney continued, "If we keep playing how we are and keep getting better from here, we'll be in a great spot."

The excitement didn't stop with the girls' game. The Redmond boys team also delivered a thrilling victory, defeating Ridgeview 56-49.

The win was fueled by Wyatt Horner’s 12 points and the return of point guard Ian Pearson, who had missed three games due to an ankle injury.

"I just wanted to be out there so bad," Pearson said. "Even coming back, it still doesn't feel great, so I have to take it easy and can't play as hard as I want to. Hopefully, within the next three days, I can be good to go."

The Panther boys now sit at 1-1 in conference play and are ranked sixth in the state. With eyes set on a league title, they hope to make a deep postseason run and earn a trip to the state tournament at Linfield University.

"I think we just got to lock in, all buy into our press and defense," Pearson said. "Our offense comes naturally, but it's about playing as a team and being completely locked in. That’s how we win games."

Both Redmond teams will be back in action this Thursday against Bend. Full highlights and coverage of the week's games will be available on Friday on The Big Playback.
