REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- We’re now a day away from the first round of the 5A Boys Basketball Playoffs. The Redmond boys are one of five Central Oregon teams playing in the first round Saturday night. This week, the third-ranked Redmond Panthers have been preparing for 14th-ranked Canby.

The Panthers finished second in league play and went 19-6 overall this season. Head Coach Reagan Gilbertson and junior Wyatt Horner say they’re ready for playoff basketball.

"They put in the work, so they deserve that," Gilbertson said, "To finish off on an awesome note, where you get a great experience by going as far as we can, the end goal is a state championship. The milestones are going 1-0, but, we think we're good enough to win it all. But we understand that it takes."

Horner says they have been preparing the right way: "Yeah, we've been locked in all week. You know, just taking practice very serious every day. I only get so many games. What we always say, we have to go 1-0, but this is a big game. This is a big 1-0 for us. We're just competing every day at practice and getting better."

Redmond's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday.
