Flashes of 2024 in Seattle, as the Mariners strike out 13 times in 7-0 loss to A’s
SEATTLE (KTVZ) -- After a strong Opening Day win, the Seattle Mariners couldn’t carry the momentum into their second game of the season, falling to the Oakland Athletics 7-0 Friday night.
The offense struggled mightily, striking out 13 times, echoing a troubling trend from last season when the Mariners led all of MLB in strikeouts and posted the second-worst batting average in the league.
Frustration among Mariners fans was evident, with some even booing at T-Mobile Park. That frustration has been building since the off-season, when the team failed to add impact bats to the lineup. Many hoped for reinforcements, but the lack of major additions is already raising concerns.
The Mariners now sit at 1-1 to start the season, with plenty of baseball left—160 games to go. However, fans are understandably anxious, as every game matters. In each of the last two seasons, the Mariners missed the playoffs by just one game. With only one postseason appearance since 2001, the pressure is on to avoid another heartbreak.
