Panic alarm is sounding off three games in, and the Mariners need to respond

SEATTLE (KTVZ)- Three strikeouts to end the game for the Mariners, the last being superstar Outfielder Julio Rodriguez striking out looking, is the nightmare Mariners fans hoped to never see again.

In three games, the Mariners have managed a .174 batting average, six runs, and have struck out 32 times. Last season, Seattle had the second-worst batting average in the league and finished with the most strikeouts. It may be way too early so far in 2025, but the panic button has already been hit.

"We got to keep pushing," Manger Dan Wilson said post-game, "and keep getting guys on base and keep getting those opportunities." Wilson said about the runners left stranded in the Saturday night game: "Once those start to turn our way, I think it gets to be contagious and things will switch."

The Mariners found their way on the bases Saturday night, but couldn't find ways to put them across home plate.

"We say get ourselves in scoring position, get ourselves opportunities to score, and, you know, we were able to do that tonight," Wilson continued," that's something that that we've talked a lot about and hopefully can continue to get ourselves in those positions so that we can get the lead in and then begin to add on as well."

It's easy to say, but it has proven difficult for the Mariners to do. The Mariners were 21st in runs scored last season and are sitting in a familiar spot three games in this season. Seattle also finished 25th in slugging percentage last year. "Our offense can strike at any time," Wilson said.

No matter how you look at it, the Mariners do not look good. The franchise did not do what they needed to do to put themselves in a position of success offensively this season. It may be an overreaction, but Seattle could be heading in the same direction as the past two seasons, and there is no bright light in sight.
