SEATTLE (KING5) — The Seattle Seahawks are going up for sale following their Super Bowl championship, a post from the team announced on Wednesday.

According to the post on Instagram, late owner Paul G. Allen's estate "has commenced a formal sale process" for the franchise.

This is in line with the terms of the Microsoft co-founder's will, which directed Jody Allen, his sister and chair of his estate, to eventually sell all his sports holdings and use the proceeds for philanthropy efforts.

Prior to the Super Bowl, rumors were swirling that the team would be sold following the season. The post on Wednesday confirmed it.

At the time of Allen's death in 2018, the Seattle-born co-founder of Microsoft was the owner of the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers as well as the Seahawks and a 25% stake in the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer (MLS). Allen's will directs his sister, Jody, to eventually sell his sports holdings and allocate all the estate proceeds to charity.

The sale of the Trail Blazers was announced in 2025, but has yet to be finalized.

Allen purchased the Seahawks in 1997 and Lumen Field was constructed under Allen's ownership. The team made back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 2014 and 2015, winning its only title in 2014 against the Denver Broncos.

They won their second Super Bowl ring in February after defeating the New England Patriots.

According to the post, his estate will use Allen & Company, an investment bank, and Latham & Watkin, a law firm, to lead the sale process.

Any sale must be signed off on by NFL owners.
